RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Francesca Maher Edwardson has announced her retirement as Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois following a decade of tireless service; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Francesca Maher Edwardson was named to head the nonprofit organization in 2005 which serves more than 9.4 million people in Illinois and Northwest Indiana; and

 

WHEREAS, During her long and illustrious tenure, Francesca Maher Edwardson exemplified a strong commitment to volunteerism and the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross; and

 

WHEREAS, A widely respected member of the legal community, Francesca Maher Edwardson previously served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at United Airlines and was a Partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown; and

 

WHEREAS, Francesca Maher Edwardson is a past Director of the Securities Department for the State of Illinois and the first woman to serve in that role; and

 

WHEREAS, Francesca Maher Edwardson holds a degree in economics from Loyola University of Chicago where she also earned a law degree; and

 

WHEREAS, Francesca Maher Edwardson is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and served on the board of JB Hunt Transportation Services, Inc., The Chicago Network, Rush Medical Center and the Lincoln Park Zoo; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Francesca Maher Edwardson serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, A party will be held in honor of Francesca Maher Edwardson on January 13, 2016, at the Rauner. Center, 2200 West Harrison Street in Chicago; now, therefore

 

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby congratulate Francesca Maher Edwardson on the occasion of her retirement and do hereby recognize her decade of service to the American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to
Francesca Maher Edwardson.
