WHEREAS, Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club (BCCA) has proudly served the students.of Chicago for the last six years and continues.expanding into new communities; and
WHEREAS, This City Council has been informed of these achievements by the Honorable •Derrick Curtis, Alderman of the 18'" Ward; and
WHEREAS, BCCA operates in 17 schools reaching about 675 students and family members annually with hands-on cooking classes; and
WHEREAS, BCCA uses their resources to impact at-risk youth in Ashburn, West Englewood, Englewood, Auburn Grcsham, Humboldt Park, and Garfield Park to fight against childhood obesity; and
WHEREAS, They promote healthy eating and well-being through their delicious and infprriiational healthy cooking classes; and
WHEREAS, BCCA is composed of local chefs who voluntecrto teach children in safe and caring environments throughout the south and west sides of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Each class teaches step-by-step directions to create healthy recipes and basic kitchen safety skills; and
WHEREAS, Students carefully tend and.care for their own school's gardens and unearth natural ingredients for their appetizing dishes creating a wonderful visual for their community; and
WHEREAS, BCCA is celebrating their new mentoring program, Cooking with Cops, an initiative to help students become great global citizens; and
WHEREAS, Cooking with Cops pairs a Chicago Police Officer with a child to cook alongside as they both work through conflict resolution and self-assessment skills to positively change youth violence in the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, BCCA values and thanks their partners that donate resources to this amazing organization, allowing BCCA to continue growing and teaching hundreds of children important lift-lessons; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, The Mayor and the City of Chicago City Council gathered here on this twentieth of July 2016, do hereby congratulate Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club on their perseverance and latest achievements, and wish.them the best in their future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club. /"^\
