RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson has officially announced his retirement as the Eighth President of the Illinois Institute of Technology, effective August 1, 2015; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this upcoming event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson assumed the office of President in 2007 and during his esteemed tenure he has increased student enrollment, expanded the number of endowed professorships and achieved fiscal stability for the institution; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson came to the Illinois Institute of Technology after serving since 2004 as Provost of Case Western Reserve University; and
 
WHEREAS, A dedicated and highly experienced leader in the field of education, Dr. John L. Anderson previously served at Carnegie Mellon University for 28 years where he rose to become Dean of the College of Engineering; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson began his long and illustrious academic career as a member of the faculty at Cornell University; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Dr. John L. Anderson earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow at both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. John L. Anderson is the author of more than 100 journal articles and book chapters; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2014 Dr. John L. Anderson was appointed to the National Science Board; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. John L. Anderson serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of July, 2014, do hereby congratulate Dr. John L. Anderson on his upcoming retirement; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. John L. Anderson.
