RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable John W. Darrah has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 78; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Honorable John W. Darrah was a widely admired federal jurist and the loving husband of Jeanine; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John W. Darrah was the much-adored father of 10 children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised on the South Side, the Honorable John W. Darrah earned his graduate and law degrees from Loyola University Chicago; and
WHEREAS, After working at the Federal Trade Commission, the Honorable John W. Darrah served during the early to mid-1970s as a public defender and prosecutor; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1976, the Honorable John W. Darrah worked for a decade in private practice; and
WHEREAS, From 1986 to 2000, the Honorable John W. Darrah served as a Judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit; and
WHEREAS, In 2000 the Honorable John W. Darrah was nominated by President Bill Clinton to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, A gentlemanly and gracious Judge, the Honorable John W. Darrah was known for his professionalism and fairness throughout his career on the bench; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John W. Darrah serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable John W. Darrah to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable John W. Darrah imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable John W. Darrah for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable John W. Darrah.
