RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown was the loving wife of the late Julius; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown was the much-adored mother of Jacqueline and Constance and the late Cynthia and Julius, the grandmother of ten and the great-grandmother of twenty-two to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown worked for nearly 40 years in the dietetics department of the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Hampton, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, After sending her four children to college, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown earned a high school diploma at 51, a bachelor's degree in social work at 61 and a master's degree at 63; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, who married the daughter of Gertrude "Gertie" Brown and ran for the Democratic nomination for president, honored his mother-in-law at the 1988 Democratic National Convention and cited her dedication to education and self-improvement; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Gertrude 'Gertie" Brown serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Gertrude 'Gertie" Brown to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Gertrude "Gertie" Brown imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate Gertrude 'Gertie" Brown for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gertrude "Gertie" Brown.
