RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger has announced his retirement as first horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra effective June 30, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this decision by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, After receiving his bachelor of fine arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1962, Dale Clevenger joined the American Symphony Orchestra, directed by Leopold Stokowski and the Symphony of the Air, directed by Alfred Wallenstein; and
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger also served as principal horn of the Kansas City Philharmonic and was an extra with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic; and
 
WHEREAS, A member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra sincel966. Dale Clevenger has spent an unprecedented 47 years as principal horn; and
 
WHEREAS, Over nearly five decades, Dale Clevenger's memorable performances have brought lasting enjoyment to appreciative audiences and added to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's well-deserved reputation as one of the best in the world; and
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger played on the Grammy Award-winning recording The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli, with the brass ensembles of the Chicago, Philadelphia, and Cleveland orchestras; and
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger's recorded performances will continue to bring inspiration and delight to lovers of great music; and
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger has served as a mentor and instructor for many of the finest orchestral horn musicians around the globe; and
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger will continue his illustrious career as a full-time Professor of Practice in the Brass Department at Indiana University's prestigious Jacbos School of Music; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Dale Clevenger's hard work, talent and dedication serve as an outstanding example to all; and
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, do hereby commend Dale Clevenger for his tireless commitment to excellence and his historic tenure with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dale Clevenger.
