MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Mary Ellen '"Lai" Feldman, nee Robin, on July 22, 2015, at the age of seventy-four; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, this devoted daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Robin was born on September 23, 1940. She was the beloved wife of fifty-one years, to Joseph S. Feldman; loving mother of Joseph (Debbie) Feldman of Naperville, Mary Carole (Mike) Prasse of Naperville, Margaret Ann (Bruce) Moore of Davenport, Iowa, Colleen (Scott) Ernsting of Naperville, Michaeline (Lee) Barnes of Naperville and Timothy Michael Feldman of Naperville; adored grandmother of Joey, Robyn, Tommy and Nick Feldman; Sidney, Christen, Michael and Clara Prasse; Danielle, Rachel, Bruce, Shelly, Sam, Lexi, Billy, Chris and Sean Moore; Bryan, Kaity (fiancee, Jeff Kohl), Chris, John, Bobby, Matt, Jackie, Scottie and the late Mary Beth Ernsting; Nicole, Lee, Lauren, Kathryn, Caroline, Jennifer and Jillian Barnes; dearly loved sister of Denise (Bernie) Nelligan, Jack (Carol) Robin, Rich (Diane) Robin, Ray (Sue) Robin, Teree (Jim) Fields and the late Sally (the late Brad) Johnson; cherished daughter-in-law of the late Sidney and Ann Feldman; dear sister-in-law of Ellen Ryan; fond aunt, great aunt and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary Ellen leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen grew up in Chicago's South Side Canaryville neighborhood, attended grade school at St. Gabriel Parish, where she was a member, and graduated from Mercy High School in 1958. Mary Ellen was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago White Sox; and

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen married Joseph S. Feldman on November 9, 1963 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, in Chicago. After getting married and starting her family, Mary Ellen moved near St. Bede Parish in Chicago. In 1975 Mary Ellen and her family settled in Naperville; and

 

WHEREAS, a devout Catholic, Mary Ellen was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Aurora, Illinois. She enjoyed wintering with her husband Joe and son Tim, in Sunny Isles, Florida and was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at their summer home in Montello, Wisconsin and was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,; and

 

WHEREAS, this kind and gentle woman will always be remembered as a loving, selfless and devoted matriarch who cherished her family and would joyfully whip up meals for fifty on a moment's notice. Her wonderful sense of humor, thoughtfulness, grace, and positive nature could light up any room that she walked into. She was truly an angel on earth; and

 

 

WHEREAS, active and vital a vital member of her community, Mary Ellen touched the lives of all who knew her through her energy, her kindness, her generosity, her heart and her spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-fourth day of September, 2015 , do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Mary Ellen "Lai" Feldman and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
