RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Thomas E. McCarter has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 71; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Lombard, Thomas E. McCarter was the loving husband for 45 years of Gail J., nee Laski; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas E. McCarter was the much-adored father of Annie, Mimi and Michael and the grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised on the Northwest Side of Chicago, Thomas E. McCarter bravely served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and

 

WHEREAS, After returning home, Thomas E. McCarter graduated from DePaul University and enjoyed a long and highly successful career as a member of the United States Secret Service; and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure as an agent, Thomas E. McCarter was a member of the security detail for Presidents Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1975 Thomas E. McCarter subdued a gun-wielding Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, during an assassination attempt on President Ford; and

 

WHEREAS, Following a long and distinguished career, Thomas E. McCarter retired from the Secret Service in 2001 as Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Office; and

 

WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas E. McCarter serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Thomas E. McCarter to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas E. McCarter will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas E. McCarter imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby commemorate Thomas E. McCarter for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas E. McCarter.
