RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Philip O'Connor has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Lakeview community, Philip O'Connor was the loving husband for 21 years of Lynn; and
WHEREAS, Philip O'Connor was the much-adored stepfather of three and the step-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Philip O'Connor graduated from Loyola University Chicago and earned master's and doctorate degrees in political science from Northwestern University; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired political strategist, Philip O'Connor managed winning gubernatorial campaigns for Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar; and
WHEREAS, Philip O'Connor was the former Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission which sets utility rates; and
WHEREAS, After leaving the Illinois Commerce Commission, Philip O'Connor founded his own consulting company, Palmer Bellevue Corporation, which later merged into Coopers & Lybrand Consulting where he was a Partner; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Philip O'Connor serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Philip O'Connor to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Philip O'Connor was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Philip O'Connor imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirty-first day of October, 2018, do hereby commemorate Philip O'Connor for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Philip OjConnor.
