RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 69; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller was the former Editor and Publisher of the Chicago Tribune and past President of Tribune Publishing Company; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller was the architect of the Chicago Tribune's acquisition of the Los Angeles Times in 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of a newspaperman, Jack Fuller was born in Chicago and began working as a copy boy at the Chicago Tribune while attending high school; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller graduated from the Medill School of Journalism and Yale Law School; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller worked at the City News Bureau of Chicago, the Chicago Daily News, Pacific Stars and Stripes and the Washington Post before becoming a general assignment reporter for the Chicago Tribune in 1973; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller briefly took a hiatus from the Chicago Tribune in 1975 to serve as Special Assistant to United States Attorney General Edward Levi during President Gerald Ford's administration; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1986 Jack Fuller won the Pulitzer Prize for his editorials on constitutional issues; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller was the author of eight novels and two books and was a talented pianist who composed jazz songs; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Chicago Tribune, Jack Fuller served as a member of the Board of Directors for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jack Fuller serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jack Fuller to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Jack Fuller was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his wife, Debra Moskovits, and his two children, Timothy and Katherine, Jack Fuller imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate Jack Fuller for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Fuller.
