RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell, Vice Chairman of the Central Region and the Managing Principal for the Chicago office of Deloitte, LLP, has been appointed President of League Operations for the National Basketball Association; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this prestigious appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 and his MBA from Notre Dame in 1989; and

WHEREAS, While attending Notre Dame, Byron Spruell starred as an offensive lineman for the Fighting Irish football team; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell earned four monograms in football from 1984-1987 and was co-captain ofthe team under Coach Lou Holtz; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell was awarded the Toyota Leadership Award in 1986 and 1987; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell received Academic All-American honorable mention in 1987 and earned a Ford Foundation post-graduate scholarship in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell joined global consulting firm Deloitte LLP and advanced through the ranks of upper management to become Vice Chairman and Managing Principal ofthe Chicago office in July 2013; and

WHEREAS, With more than a quarter-century of managerial experience in professional services, Byron Spruell directs Deloitte's national strategy for client and business growth and strategic positioning in local markets across seventeen states in the central region; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants and the National Black MBA Association; and

WHEREAS, Byron Spruell has served on many boards, committees and charitable organizations including the Salvation Army, Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago, the Jackie Robinson Foundation in New York, the Center for Houston's Future, the United Way, Junior Achievement and College Summit; and

WHEREAS, On May 15, 2015 Byron Spruell was elected to Notre Dame's Board of Trustees; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby congratulate Byron Spruell on his appointment to serve as President of League Operations for the National Basketball Association and wish him continued success as he begins his tenure; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Byron, Spruell.
