CONGRATUALATIONS TO THE BARBARA AND ROBERT P. i PERKAUS JR. FAMILY FOR RECEIVING THE REV. DANIEL A. LORD, SJ AWARD
WHEREAS, On Friday, November 2, 2018, Loyola Academy honored the Barbara and Robert P. Perkaus Jr. Family, as their recipient ofthe Reverend Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award for Distinguished Service during their 61st Annual President's Dinner; and
WHEREAS, The members ofthe Chicago City Council has been made aware ofthis significant accolade by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward Alderman; and
WHEREAS, Bob P. Perkaus, Jr., Loyola Academy graduate, class of 1954, accepted this prestigious award on behalf of the Perkaus family during the President's Family Mass; and,
WHEREAS, The joyous celebration continued in the Wintrust Grand Banking Hall in downtown Chicago, where six-hundred and fifty people gathered to share their immense gratitude with the family; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara and Robert P. Jr. both attended Loyola University where they found they shared a common set of Jesuit values focused on service to others and God. And, in 1958, the couple married and over the next two decades raised four sons, who also attended Loyola Academy: Robert P. Perkaus III 77, John R. Perkaus '78, Michael J. Perkaus'79 and James F. Perkaus'81; and
WHEREAS, Barbara and Robert both grew up in hardworking families and have demonstrably strived throughout their lives to put their beliefs in sacrifice and service to others into action in a multitude of generous ways. They authentically and visibly live by the motto of "Faith, Family, and Friends" and continually instill these values in their children and grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Bob and Barbara, as young parents on a limited budget, made their first gift to Loyola Academy in 1962 to support scholarships for the Academy's "Ramblers" in need, launching a legacy of generosity that has continued over the decades to include: support to the Annual President's Dinner and Annual Giving Program; Bob having served as a Loyola trustee and as president of the father's Club; Barb's service as president of the Mother's Club and as a member of multiple volunteer committees over the years; the establishment of the Perkaus/Reed Scholarship Endowment; the development of Loyola's Theodore G. Munz, SJ, Campus in Glenview; and, recently, the major gift they have given to the Second Century Campaign to support the development of a new theater for the performing arts on campus; and,
WHEREAS, These examples of generosity and service to the Loyola community are rooted in a way of living life that is firmly grounded in giving back - and extend well beyond the bounds of Loyola Academy to their participation and leadership in other community activities and organizations, including the Night Ministry, Chicago Children's Advocacy Center, Catholic Charities, Maryville Academy and Little Brothers of the Poor and Friends of the Elderly; and,
WHEREAS, Bob grew up in the Sauganash community on the Chicago's north side and the Perkaus family gives to that community, as well, through the Sauganash Community Association's Annual Bob Perkaus Memorial 5K Walk and Run, which raises funds for scholarships at Loyola Academy and Queen of All Saints, as well as developments at Sauganash Park and Sauganash Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, The Perkaus family philanthropy and service is truly extraordinary and has made an indelible difference in the lives of many people; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twelfth day of December, 2018, do hereby express our deepest arid most sincere cbngratuiations to the Barbara and Robert P. Perkaus Jr. Family in their acceptance of this prestigious and well-deserved award; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Barbara and Robert P. Perkaus Jr. and family as a sign of our utmost honor and respect.
