RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-eight; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Hyde Park community, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans was a widely admired member of the medical community and the loving husband of Roberta; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Raised in the Rogers Park community, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans was the son of a shoe salesman and a homemaker and graduated from Senn High School in just two years; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans came to the University of Chicago at the age of sixteen, stayed at the University to attend medical school and became Chief Resident; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans served for two years as a surgeon in the United States Air Force and treated wounded soldiers in the Vietnam War; and
 
WHEREAS, Known for his intellectual curiosity and wide range of knowledge, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans enjoyed a long and highly successful career as a surgeon at Michael Reese Hospital where he focused on cardiothoracic and thyroid surgery; and
 
WHEREAS, A consummate professional of great dignity and compassion, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans was deeply devoted to his patients and never turned away anyone because they were unable to pay for his services; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Richard Harvey Evans serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Richard Harvey Evans to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Richard Harvey Evans imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Dr. Richard Harvey Evans for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Richard Harvey Evans.
