RESOLU TION HONORING 2016 HACER SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
WHEREAS, Established in 1985, McDonald's owner/operator Richard Castro created the Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resource scholarship program (HACER) to encourage young Hispanics to complete high school and pursue a higher education.
WHEREAS, There are chapters of HACER in 21 states and it is the country 's largest scholarship program for Hispanic high school students entering college.
WHEREAS, As part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) U.S. Scholarship Program, RMHC/HACER is a scholarship designed to provide financial assistance to eligible Hispanic high school seniors who face financial obstacles as they prepare to attend college.
WHEREAS, Students arc selected and awards are distributed based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement.
WHEREAS, The McDonald's Hispanic Owners-Operators Association (MHOA) is actively involved in Hispanic initiatives and programs, such as the RMHC/HACER scholarship program, to continue to provide opportunities for the community.
WHEREAS, Today RMHC/HACER is one of the largest college scholarships for Hispanic students. Over 16,000 Hispanic students have been awarded more than S24 million in scholarships to support their college education.
WHEREAS, This year, five talented students from the Chicago area were selected to receive the RMHC/HACER scholarship in order to continue pursuing personal and academic excellence through higher education.
WHEREAS, All of Chicago is tremendously proud of the hard work and dedication of its RMHC/HACER scholarship recipients.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That wc, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 20lh day of )uly, 2016, A.D., do hereby congratulate the following students who are awarded the RMHC/HACER scholarship: Javier Covarrubias attending Stanford University; Anastacia Gomez attending Butler University; Pedro Orellana attending University of lllinois-Urbana; Brenda Pacheco attending University of Illinois-Urbana; Diana Roldan attending Northwestern University; and
