RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Edward Sadlowski has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Sadlowski was a prominent Chicago labor leader and the loving husband of Marlene; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Sadlowski was the much-adored father of the Honorable Susan, Patricia, Edward Jr. and Diane, the grandfather of eleven and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of a steelworker, Edward Sadlowski was raised in the South Chicago neighborhood and learned from his father who was an organizer at the Inland Steel Company; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Sadlowski began his career in 1956 working as a machinist at the United States Steel South Works plant; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1964 Edward Sadlowski became head of its union and oversaw 23,000 workers; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1975 Edward Sadlowski became President of District 31 of the United Steelworkers' largest region that represented 128,000 members in Chicago and Gary; and

 

WHEREAS, More recently Edward Sadlowski served on the local panel of the Illinois Labor Relations Board; and

 

WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the labor movement, Edward Sadlowski was inducted into the Illinois Labor History Society's Union Hall of Honor; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward Sadlowski serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward Sadlowski to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Edward Sadlowski was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward Sadlowski imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 27th day of June, 2018, do hereby commemorate Edward Sadlowski for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Sadlowski.
