RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband of Phyllis and the late Mary Jane; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. was the much-adored father of Tom, John, Bob, Bill, Dan and the late James III, the grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, During World War II, James F. Ashenden Jr. served his country as a pilot in the United States Navy Air Corps; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. earned both his graduate and law degrees from Loyola University; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. enjoyed a long and highly successful career at the law firm of O'Keefe, Ashenden, Lyons & Ward from which he retired at the age of 70; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr. was a Director of the World Golf Association since 1980 and was active in many leadership roles in the organization; and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Chairman of the World Golf Association from 1990 to 1991, James F. Ashenden Jr. oversaw the Western Open Championship's move to a new home at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont; and

 

WHEREAS, James F. Ashenden Jr served on the Board of Governors and as a Life Trustee of the Evans Scholarship Foundation which provides college scholarships to caddies who excel academically but cannot afford the cost of higher education; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James F. Ashenden Jr. serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James F. Ashenden Jr. to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James F. Ashenden Jr. imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate James F. Ashenden Jr. for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James F. Ashenden Jr.
