RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of the Kenwood neighborhood, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was a widely admired educator and the loving wife of the late Lester; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was the much-adored mother of Dr. Jeffrey, Gail and Lauren, the grandmother of five and the great-grandmother of three; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was the dear sister of Barbara; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in a prominent Chicago family, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was the daughter of Robert Rochon Taylor, the Chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority during the 1940s after whom the Robert Taylor Homes was named; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas' grandfather, Robert Robinson Taylor, was the nation's first academically-trained African-American architect and was honored by the United States Postal Service with a limited-edition stamp celebrating black heritage; and

 

WHEREAS, An advocate for early childhood education, Lauranita Taylor Dugas enjoyed a career as an educator and taught at the Chicago Child Care Society; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was a member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Wisconsin School of Human Ecology from 1999 to 2012; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas was a Founding Member of the Museum of Science and Industry's Black Creativity Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Lauranita Taylor Dugas serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauranita Taylor Dugas will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Lauranita Taylor Dugas imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate Lauranita Taylor Dugas for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lauranita Taylor Dugas.
