RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John Francis Lux has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired member of the journalism community, John Francis Lux an editor at the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Today; and
WHEREAS, Raised on the Southwest Side of Chicago, John Francis Lux graduated from Brother Rice High School and studied journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and
WHEREAS, John Francis Lux joined the staff of the Chicago Today in 1971 and then the Chicago Tribune in 1974 when the papers merged; and
WHEREAS, John Francis Lux had an excellent ear for language and his humor, gentle presence and people skills made his a much-beloved favorite in the newsroom; and
WHEREAS, John Francis Lux occasionally wrote restaurant reviews and "arts at large" profiles of performers; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, retired in 2005 and organized fishing trips frequented by other retired Chicago Tribune staffers; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John Francis Lux serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John Francis Lux to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his loving wife 40 years, Marilyn, his two daughters, the Reverend Margaret Cumings and Claire Winnard, his two brothers, Robert and David, and his five grandchildren, John Francis Lux imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby commemorate John Francis Lux for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
