RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John Boler has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Inverness, John Boler was a prominent business leader and the loving husband for 58 years of Mary Jo, nee Lombardo; and
WHEREAS, A native of Marion, Ohio, John Boler was the son of the late John and Violet; and
WHEREAS, John Boler graduated from John Carroll University in Cleveland where he studied business; and
WHEREAS, John Boler worked early in his career for Gould, Inc., where he oversaw international mergers and guided the electronics conglomerate's entry into South America and other markets; and
WHEREAS, John Boler left Gould, Inc., in 1977 to found the Boler Company, the parent company of Hendrickson, the world's leading supplier of heavy-duty truck suspensions; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired civic leader, John Boler chaired the American Cancer Society's National Foundation Board and supported numerous educational, healthcare and autism-related causes; and
WHEREAS, The generous philanthropy of John and Mary Jo Boler was recognized by John Carroll University in 1996 when it named its school of business after the couple and by Rush University Medical Center which named its advanced imaging center after the Bolers in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Nicknamed "Sunny" for his optimistic disposition, John Boler was a larger-than-life charismatic figure who will be dearly missed by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John Boler serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John Boler imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby commemorate John Boler for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Boler.
