RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood was a widely admired labor leader and the loving husband for sixty-five years of Gloria; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood was the much-adored father of Doug, Justine, Deborah and Wendy, and the grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Raised in Humboldt Park, Michael "Woody" Wood was active as a youth in the Deborah Boys Club after which he named one of his daughters; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood worked numerous jobs and became a Golden Gloves boxer; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood sold prizes won from his amateur bouts to help feed his family during the Great Depression; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood served during World War II in the United States Navy and worked at A. Finkl & Sons, a precision steel manufacturer; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood was soon hired by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers where he was an organizer, bargaining member, and national Chief of Staff; and
 
WHEREAS, A dapper dresser known as much for' his toughness as his kindness, Michael "Woody" Wood rose to become the union's International Vice President; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Michael "Woody" Wood serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Michael "Woody" Wood to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael "Woody" Wood will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Michael "Woody" Wood imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 2013, do hereby commemorate Michael "Woody" Wood for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of MichaeW'Woody" Wood.
