RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend W. Barry Moriarty has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 77; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend W. Barry Moriarty was a member of the Congregation of the Mission Western Province and a former Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in the Lincoln Park community; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend W. Barry Moriarty was the son of the late Daniel and Theresa, nee Ryan; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend W. Barry Moriarty joined the Congregation of the Mission Western Province, also known as the Vincentians, in 1958 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 19, 1967 at DeAndreis Seminary in Lemont, Illinois by John Cardinal Cody; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend W. Barry Moriarty held a doctorate degree from St. John's University and was Director of Vincentian Novices in New Orleans and Germantown; and

 

WHEREAS, During the mid-1990s, the Reverend W. Barry Moriarty was assigned to Marsabit, Kenya to teach at the diocesan seminary and became instrumental in the 2000 opening of the DePaul Centre in Nairobi which serves as the center for Vincentian formation in eastern Africa; and

 

WHEREAS, The , Reverend W. Barry Moriarty became Superior of the facility and helped to establish a presence there for the Daughters of Charity; and

 

WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend W. Barry Moriarty serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend W. Barry Moriarty imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Reverend W. Barry Moriarty for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
