RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden has been called, to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden was a widely admired educator and the loving husband for more than 60 years of Geneva, nee Justin; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden was the much-adored father of Shawn and Dr. Shellie to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden was the dear brother of Ann; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden graduated from Englewood High School and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he excelled in academics and sports; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden began his career with the Chicago Public Schools as a teacher and coached basketball, football and golf; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden ably served for nearly four decades with the Chicago Board of Education and rose to become the Director of Health, Physical Education and Safety for the Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the schools system, Dr. William J.
Harden earned a master's degree in education from Loyola University
Chicago and a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University;

WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden served his country in the United States Army from 1957 'to 1959; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. William J. Harden1 serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. William J. Harden to his family members, friends and all'who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William J. Harden was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who -will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. William J. Harden imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby commemorate Dr. William J. Harden for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
