RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner was the loving husband for 57 years of Lois; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Lahner was the much-adored father of Kerry, Scott, Christopher and the late Kimberly, the grandfather of nine and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner was the dear brother of Kathleen and Patricia, the late Richard and the late Dennis; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Kenneth Lahner was raised in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner attended St. Rita High School and Northern Illinois University; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner served during the 1960s and 1970s on the Itasca Park Board, including as its President; and
WHEREAS, From 1978 to 1982 the Honorable Kenneth Lahner was a member of the DuPage County Board and the DuPage County Forest Preserve District; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner was appointed to serve as DuPage County Recorder from 1983 to 1984; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth Lahner was later Chief of Staff for the President of the DuPage County Board until he left government in 1989 to become Vice President and General Manager for the Elmhurst-Chicago Stone Company; and
WHEREAS, For more than 25 years the Honorable Kenneth Lahner was the public face of the concrete-producing company as it expanded its operations; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Kenneth Lahner serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Kenneth Lahner to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Lahner was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Kenneth Lahner imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Kenneth Lahner for his grace-fdled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Kenneth Lahner.
