RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert Carroll was bom to his parents, Thomas and Beatrice; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Father Robert Caroll's 50,h Anniversary of his Ordination by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert attended St. Raymond's Grade School, then he went on to Joliet Catholic High School which was under the leadership of the Carmelite Order; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1961, Robert began his college years at Mount Carmel College in Niagara Falls, Ontario and finished school at Carmelite novitiate in Pennsylvania where he received a degree in Philosophy, and minors added by summer studies at St. Bonaventure in New York; and

 

WHEREAS, His Theology studies took place in the Carmelite theologate in Washington D.C, and then he completed a two-year internship at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago as a Math teacher; and

 

WHEREAS, After completing his internship, Robert returned to Washington D.C. for two years of Theology studies while simultaneously studying across town at Georgetown University where he received a Master's degree in Philosophy; and

 

WHEREAS, In May 1971, Robert was ordained a priest at the Carmelite Parish in downtown Joliet, and celebrated his first Mass at the Cathedral of St. Raymond; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert was assigned to Mount Carmel where he was a teacher in several departments for eight years and was then appointed Principal, a position he had for ten years; and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure at Mount Carmel, Father Robert earned a Master's in Education from Loyola University, and subsequently a Doctor of Philosophy; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert's dissertation was award winning, its theme was the Gospel of Mark and its underlying architectonic structure; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert was appointed Principal of Carmel Catholic in Mundelein where he also found time to teach at the Seminary across the street, and helped four failing Chicago Public Schools; and

 

WHEREAS, After spending fourteen years at Carmel Catholic in Mundelein, Father Robert went to live in Scotland for a semester at Perth to study Celtic spirituality and has returned to the United States to become a Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Darien, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, During his Chicago and Mundelein days Father Robert served in several parishes as a Sunday assistant, St. Cajetan, St. Thomas More, and for twenty-three years at Christ the King; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert presided over numerous baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and attended over 1,700 high school sporting events and retreats; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert is the only high school Principal in the country who has secured four Blue Ribbon Awards for his leadership, a feat in which a winning school could only apply again if significant progress was made from a previous outstanding performance over a period of five years; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Robert was inducted into Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame due to his leadership in Illinois Athletics; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth-seventh day of October, 2021, do hereby recognize Father Robert Carroll's 50th Anniversary of his Ordination as well as his lifetime achievements and accolades; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Father Robert Caroll.
