RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Peter James Wilkes has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 72; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Peter James Wilkes was the loving husband of Patricia; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter James Wilkes was the much-adored father of Peter, Christopher, Brian and Nicole and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Peter James Wilkes served for eighteen years with the Illinois State Police where he was Director of Executive Security and was responsible for the protection of four of the State's governors, their families and their residences; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1979 Peter James Wilkes was named United States Marshal for the Northern District of Illinois by President Jimmy Carter and continued in that role under President Ronald Reagan until his retirement from public service in 1986; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter James Wilkes and his wife later founded Protective Services, Inc. which is licensed to provide security services; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Peter James Wilkes serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Peter James Wilkes to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter James Wilkes was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Peter James Wilkes imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of December, 2014, do hereby commemorate Peter James Wilkes for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Peter James Wilkes.
