RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., was the loving and devoted husband of Marilyn; and

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., was the much-adored father of Karen, Russell and Andrew, the grandfather of fourteen and the great-grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., served as the nation's seventh Secretary of Transportation under President Ronald Reagan; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Philadelphia, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., was a successful businessman and a member of President Reagan's cabinet from 1981 to 1983; and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure, Andrew L. "Drew" Lewis, Jr., was the Republican administration's chief representative during the strike by the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Association and led the divestment of the Conrail freight line; and

 

WHEREAS, After concluding his tenure in government, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., founded his own consulting firm and served in a number of high-profile posts, including as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Union Pacific Corporation; and

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., was on the boards of American Express, Ford Motor Company, Gannett Company and SmithKline Beecham; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby commemorate Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Andrew "Drew" L. Lewis, Jr.
