RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edward F. Sheehy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Edward F. Sheehy was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and, the loving husband of the late Diane K.; and
WHEREAS, Edward F. Sheehy was the much-adored father of Mary, Maureen, John, Kathryn, Coleen,- Diane, Thomas, Patricia and Jennifer, the grandfather of 22 and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's Southeast Side, Edward F. Sheehy graduated from Our Lady of Peace School and Mount Carmel High School and attended the University of Utah; and
WHEREAS, Edward F. Sheehy served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 in Munich, Germany with the Counterintelligence Corps; and
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Edward F. Sheehy earned an undergraduate and a law degree from DePaul University and enjoyed a long and illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards, Edward F. Sheehy retired in 1991 as the Commander of the Morgan Park District and previously served as a Lieutenant,. Sergeant, and as a Patrol Officer; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Edward F. Sheehy upheld the finest and most noble traditions of the law enforcement community; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward F. Sheehy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward F. Sheehy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Edward F. Sheehy will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward F. Sheehy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Edward F. Sheehy for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward. F. Sheehy.
