RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Paul Stepan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Winnetka, Paul Stepan was a widely admired member of the Chicagoland business community and the loving and devoted husband of Ann; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Stepan was the beloved father of Shannon and Paul and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Stepan is also survived by his siblings, Marilee, Charlotte, Alfred, Quinn, Stratford and John; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Stepan received a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree from Oxford University where he studied politics, philosophy and economics; and
 
WHEREAS, After graduating from the University of Chicago Law School, Paul Stepan practiced corporate law and became a Partner at Mayer Brown and Piatt in 1978; and
 
WHEREAS, A prominent Chicago real estate developer, Paul Stepan helped build the Illinois Center, the Hyatt Regency Chicago and Harry Caray's Restaurant; and
 
WHEREAS, An organizer of uncommon ability and vision, Paul Stepan was the finance chairman for the Honorable Richard M. Daley in his elections for State's Attorney and Mayor of Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, A man of great integrity and moral conviction, Paul Stepan was involved in many worthy civic and charitable causes; and
 
 
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Paul Stepan serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Paul Stepan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Paul Stepan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate Paul Stepan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Stepan.
