RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 71; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley was a former Ohio Congressman and the loving husband of Patricia; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley was the much-adored father of Michael C. and the grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1973 to 1981; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley served as the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee which oversaw banking and financial issues; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure on Capitol Hill, the Honorable Michael Oxley helped to craft legislation which targeted corporate fraud and mandated stricter internal controls following the Enron Corp. and WorldCom, Inc. scandals; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being elected to Congress, the Honorable Michael Oxley was a state legislator and served as an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
WHEREAS, A man committed to excellence who maintained a high level of integrity, the Honorable Michael Oxley gave of himself fully to his family and was a loyal friend to many; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Oxley inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Mike Oxley serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Michael Oxley to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mike Oxley was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Mike Oxley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Mike Oxley for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Mike Oxley.
