ANTHONY J. RICCIO HONORED BY ITALIAN AMERICAN POLICE ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, The Italian American Police Association will honor Anthony J. Riccio as Man of the Year on November 3, 2018 at Alta Villa Banquets in Addison; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Anthony started his policing career in 1985. He currently serves as the Chicago Police Department's First Deputy Superintendent (FDS), where he is charged with daily operations of the entire department. He was appointed to the position of FDS in February 2018; and
WHEREAS, Anthony's experience spans all facets of policing, including crime suppression and initial investigations; community outreach; accountability through follow-up as a detective and officer development through mentoring at every level. Previously, he has worked as a beat officer, tactical officer, gang-crimes officer, academy instructor, detective, tactical lieutenant, field sergeant and lieutenant, overseeing patrol and detective division personnel; and
WFIEREAS, In 2008 his dedication culminated in promotion to Commander of the 016th District, where he recognized the importance of strong partnerships between the community and police. As such, Anthony infused the district with a community policing philosophy. This partnership translated into a marked decrease in index crimes within the district; and
WHEREAS, Anthony's extensive experience as a detective earned him the position of Detective Division Commander in 2009. In this position, he was lauded for maintaining high clearance rates, while significantly reducing overtime expenditures for the department. He was promoted to Deputy Chief of the Detective Division in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Anthony's leadership abilities were further tapped in 2015 when he was promoted to Chief Bureau of Organized Crime in this position, Anthony was responsible for direct deployment and oversight of nearly 700 bureau members, mostly in highly sensitive and critical positions. Anthony served in this position until he was appointed First Deputy Superintendent, where he continues to work with enthusiasm and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Anthony always knew he would follow his dad's footsteps into a life of public service. Before joining the Chicago Police Department, he served as a police officer for the Mt. Prospect Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Anthony is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He is married and has one daughter, of whom he is incredibly proud; now, therefore
