RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner was a celebrated and highly respected Chicago journalist who covered the local arts and culture scene for decades; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Hyde Park, Andrew Patner was the son of Irene and the late Marshall, a prominent Chicago attorney and activist; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner was a published author and a much sought-after moderator and lecturer; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner served as the Critic-at-Large for WFMT Radio Chicago and its website since 1998 and was a contributing critic to the Chicago Sun-Times since 1991; and
WHEREAS, Known for his intellectual ability, charisma and wide circle of friends, Andrew Patner was a former writer and editor for Chicago magazine and a reporter for the Wall Street Journal; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner served as the inaugural Director of the Program on Arts Policy at Columbia College Chicago and a founding member of the Chicago Arts Critics Association; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Andrew Patner serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Andrew Patner to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Patner will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his mother, Irene, his two brothers, Seth and Joshua, and his longtime partner, Tom Bachtell, Andrew Patner imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Andrew Patner for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Andrew Patner.
