RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, For sixty-eight years, William Wood McKittrick was the loving and devoted husband of Carolyn; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick was the much-adored father of Bruce and Lynn to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick attended DePauw University and was a valued member of its 1933 football team which enjoyed an undefeated season and was not scored upon; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from DePauw, William Wood McKittrick earned a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II; and
WHEREAS, In 1952 William Wood McKittrick was one of seven attorneys to found the law firm of Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz, where he practiced law until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick devoted much of his time and resources to such organizations as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Lyric Opera, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Newberry Library, and Northwestern University; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William Wood McKittrick serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared William Wood McKittrick to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, William Wood McKittrick will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, William Wood McKittrick imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby commemorate William Wood McKittrick for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Wood McKittrick. /
