RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 73; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman was a widely admired educator and a former Illinois State Representative known for his knowledge of finance and independent principles; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Charlestown, West Virginia, the Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned both a master's degree in public administration and a doctorate in economics from Syracuse University; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman moved to Chicago where he worked as a research economist for the Federal Reserve Bank and taught economics at the University of Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman served from 1976 to 1990 as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from the Evanston area and was the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman served as the Chief Financial Officer for Cook County from 1991 to 1994 under Cook County Board President Richard Phelan; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman joined the faculty of DePaul University where he earned a stellar reputation for his unceasing generosity toward students who considered him to be a wise and trusted mentor; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Michele Thompson, the Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That, we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the honorable H. Woods "Woody" Bowman.
