RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mario Cuomo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago-City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mario Cuomo was the 52nd Governor of the State of New York and the loving husband for 60 years of Matilda, nee Raffa; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mario Cuomo was the much-adored father of the Honorable Andrew, Maria, Margaret, Madeline and Chris to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York City to Italian immigrant parents, the Honorable Mario Cuomo earned his undergraduate and law degrees from St. John's University and worked as an attorney; and
WHEREAS, Known as an articulate and progressive leader, the Honorable Mario Cuomo 'ably served the people of New York State for three,terms as their Governor from 1983 to 1994; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable Mario Cuomo returned the state to financial stability, championed initiatives to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and launched one of the most comprehensive public health programs in the nation to address AIDS; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mario Cuomo previously served as Lieutenant Governor from 1-979 to 1982 and as Secretary of State from 1975 to, 1978; and
WHEREAS, Since 1995 the Honorable Mario Cuomo worked as Of-Counsel to the New York law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Mario Cuomo serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mario Cuomo was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Mario Cuomo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of January, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Mario Cuomo for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
