RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein was a widely admired member of the journalism community and the loving husband of Marianne, nee Demereckis; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein was the much-adored father of Amy, Anne Marie and Morris, the grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in the Hyde Park community, Justin Fishbein graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein worked at the Chicago Sun-Times from 1949 to 1960 where he was a police reporter, Springfield reporter and rewrite man; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein was known for both his unfailing accuracy and his graciousness; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times, Justin Fishbein went on to work as an editor and editorial manager at Science Research Associates in Chicago and retired in 1993 from IBM which purchased the company; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein also wrote three books with his father, Dr. Morris Fishbein, a physician and the longtime editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA); and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein was a valued member of the Chicago Newspaper Reporters Association; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Justin Fishbein serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Justin Fishbein to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Justin Fishbein was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Justin Fishbein imparts a legacy of

faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby commemorate Justin Fishbein for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
