RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Michael Martin served his country with valor and great distinction as U.S. Navy SEAL; and

WHEREAS, The Navy SEALs are the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force and part of the Naval Special Warfare Command; and

WHEREAS, The Navy SEALs, America's "silent warriors," conduct counter-terrorism missions, hostage rescue, and small-unit maritime military operations that originate from, and return to rivers, oceans, deltas, swamps and coastal regions; and

WHEREAS, Raised in suburban Detroit, Michael Martin graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1996 and was one of sixteen candidates from Annapolis selected for SEAL training; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Martin finished at the top of his SEAL training class; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin's Naval career included assignments with SEAL Team ONE, SEAL Team SEVEN, and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin successfully completed leadership combat deployments to Southeast Asia and the Middle East; and

WHEREAS, Following the 9/11 attacks, Michael Martin deployed to Afghanistan from Coronado, California as a SEAL assault commander in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin then deployed to the Philippines as a lead advisor to the Pilipino SEALs; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin completed two tours of duty in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as an assistant task unit commander and as a task unit commander commanding a team in Anbar province and in Fallujah where he helped train Iraqis; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin was awarded the Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal both with Combat Valor; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin resides in the Chicagoland area and is currently an executive director and portfolio manager at UBS O'Connor; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin and his wife Leslie are the proud parents of five children; and

WHEREAS, Michael Martin is exceedingly worthy of our highest admiration and esteem; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of November, 2016 do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Michael Martin for his military service; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Martin.
