RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell graduated from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell was ordained a Catholic priest on June 5, 1947; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell's first assignment was at Our Lady Help of Christians in Chicago from 1947 to 1955; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell served as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1980 and retired as a Chaplain, Brigadier General; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell was the recipient of numerous decorations, awards and campaign ribbons, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell was Director of Ethnic Ministries in the Chancery Office under the late Joseph Cardinal Bernardin and spent his final years as an Associate at St. Emeric's Catholic Church in Country Club Hills; and
 
WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby
 
 
commemorate the Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend Jeremiah J. Rodell.
