RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard, a widely admired member of the religious community, has announced his retirement as the Pastor of Queen of All Saints Parish in Sauganash; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1974 and served from 1974 until 1980 as Associate Pastor of St. Albert the Great Parish and of St. Julian Eymard Parish from 1980 to 1985; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard has served in numerous high-profile assignments during the course of his ministry; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1985 Joseph Cardinal Bernardin appointed Monsignor John E. Pollard to the staff of the Office of Catechesis in the Archdiocese of Chicago where he rose two years later to become its Director; and

 

WHEREAS, 1992 Monsignor John E. Pollard was named to the staff of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C. where he stayed for seven years before returning home to Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard later returned for a second stint of service with the Conference in 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard has taught at the University of Illinois, St. Xavier University and DePaul University; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard was named by Today's Catholic Teacher one of the 25 most influential leaders in Catholic education over the past quarter century; and

 

WHEREAS, Cardinal George appointed Monsignor John E. Pollard as Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Wilmette in 2003 and in 2010 assigned him as Pastor of Queen of All Saints Basilica; and

 

WHEREAS, Throughout his lifelong commitment to Catholic education, Monsignor John E. Pollard has been a catechist and teacher of preschoolers, children with disabilities, high school, college and graduate students and of other teachers, catechists, principals and priests; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed Monsignor John E. Pollard the title of Reverend Monsignor and a Chaplain of His Holiness in 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Monsignor John E. Pollard has been a Chaplain of the Irish Fellowship Club for more than 20 years; and

 

WHEREAS, The faithfulness, sacrifice and dedication of Monsignor John E. Pollard serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-seventh day of June, 2018, do hereby congratulate Monsignor John E. Pollard on the occasion of his retirement; and
