RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Wilmette, John P. Glunz was owner of one of the nation's oldest beer distributorships and the loving husband for 52 years of the late Patricia, nee Haskins; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz was the much-adored father of seven, the grandfather of eleven and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz was the dear brother of Louis, Patricia, Barbara and Joseph; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz was raised above the family wine store, now known as the House of Glunz, at Division and Wells Streets on the Near North Side; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he met his future wife at the neighboring sister school Clark College; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz joined the family business, Louis Glunz Beer, Inc., a third generation beer distributorship founded 130 years ago; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz learned about the business working alongside his father, Louis Glunz II, and assumed ownership in 1992; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz went on to operate the business with four of his seven children; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John P. Glunz serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John P. Glunz to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, John P. Glunz was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John P. Glunz imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate John P. Glunz for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John P. Glunz.
