CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DONALD C. ANDERSON ON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF JOHN M. PALMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
WHEREAS, Donald C. Anderson is retiring as Principal of John M. Palmer Elementary School after thirty-four years of providing educational leadership; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Don Anderson provided education leadership as a teacher, assistant principal, central and area office administrator, consultant and served as the principal of two suburban Chicago schools and two Chicago Public Schools, including Ebinger Elementary School and John M. Palmer Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed career with the Chicago Public Schools, Don Anderson held a number of leadership positions. As the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, he was responsible for programs and policies for six hundred schools. Don served as Project Manager in the development of a performance based compensation plan for principals and was a member of the Superintendent's Board/Union Negotiations Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Don Anderson served as Co-Founding Director of Chicago Leadership Academy for one-thousand administrators and fifty school leadership teams and as Director of the Master Principal Development Program. He was the Director of Training for six-hundred Local School Councils and coached and mentored new and aspiring principals for the Chicago Public Schools as well as administrators for Learning Forward (NSDC); and
WHEREAS, Don Anderson developed and facilitated ongoing professional development programs for the State of Illinois and was the Editor of Perspectives: A Journal of Educational Research and practice for the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association. As an officer for the Illinois Staff Development Council, Don conducted numerous professional development sessions for various schools and business; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed to Donald Anderson on thirty-four years of service with the Chicago Public Schools; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby express our gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Donald Anderson as he retires and we extend to him our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Donald C. Anderson.
