RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Alvin Porrata has gone to his eternal reward at the age of fifty-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Alvin Porrata was a decorated member of the Chicago Police Department and the loving husband of Sonia; and
 
WHEREAS, Alvin Porrata was the much-adored father of Jeny, Alvin, Nora, Yanitza and Christopher and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Born in 1959 to Rafael and Felicita, Alvin Porrata was raised in the Wrigleyville neighborhood and attended Lake View High School before earning his GED; and
 
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Chicago Police Department, Alvin Porrata worked in a Chicago candy factory and lived for a while in Puerto Rico where he operated a pizzeria; and
 
WHEREAS, A highly distinguished twenty-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, Alvin Porrata served for most of his career in the 18th Police District; and
 
WHEREAS, Alvin Porrata earned a reputation for both his devotion to duty and his compassion toward those he met during the course of his career; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2011 Alvin Porrata was decorated with the Police Blue Star Award after he was struck and seriously injured by a motorist who was attempting to elude police in the Weed Street entertainment district on the Near North Side; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Alvin Porrata was a self-described "exercise machine" whose rigorous hours-long workouts included hundreds of push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Alvin Porrata serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Alvin Porrata to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Alvin Porrata imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby commemorate Alvin Porrata for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED. That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ahnn Porrata.    s\ y
