MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of May Stoesser, nee Larson, on August 31, 2015, at the age of ninety-nine; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, This devoted daughter of John and Esther (nee Kylen) Larsen, was born in Goteborg, Sweden on June 4, 1916. May was the beloved wife of the late John Stoesser; loving mother of Katherine Kylen, Irene Stoesser, John (Dorian) Stoesser and Barbara (Craig) Mengarelli; dearly cherished grandmother of Peter, John, Andrew, Karla, Elena, Erik and Stephanie; cherished great-grandmother of Andrea, Megan and Ana Mae; dear sister of the late Hugo, the late Stig, the late Ruth and the late Lilly; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Active and vital in her community, May was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chicago and current member of Edgebrook Lutheran Church; long-time member and three time past president of the Edgebrook Woman's Club, as well as past president and member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Key Woman Educators; and
WHEREAS, A passionate educator, embracer of life and laughter, world traveler, avid bridge player, lover of the arts, camping and bowling, May will be remembered for her smiling face, wonderful sense of humor, thoughtfulness, kindness, grace, and positive nature. She touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, her generosity, her heart and her spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-fourth day of September, 2015 , do hereby express our sorrow on the death of May Stoesser and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of May Stoesser as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
