RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was the loving husband for nearly 60 years of Beverly; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was the much-adored father of Craig, Kurt, Erik and Karin and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in Galesburg, Illinois, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson graduated from high school in Clinton, Iowa and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in forestry; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson ably served for 33 years as the top operating chief of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson oversaw the district as it expanded from 1,300 acres and three full-time employees to 23,000 acres and 300 employees; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was known for his acquisition of new land for the district and his skill as an effective manager; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was honored in 1989 with the Cornelius Amory Pugsley Award bestowed by the National Park Foundation for his outstanding contributions to promoting and developing public parks; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was named the 1993 recipient of the National Society for Park Resources' William Penn Mott Jr. Award for excellence in professional achievement; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of H.C. "Chuck" Johnson serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared H.C. "Chuck" Johnson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, H.C. "Chuck" Johnson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby commemorate H.C. "Chuck" Johnson for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
