MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Bernard A. Ughetti, on February 20, 2015, at the age of ninety-one ; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on September 20,1923, Bernard was the beloved husband of the very, very patient Jean, nee Sonneker; lucky father of Pamela Ughetti, Carol Oster and the late Barbara (Alan) Konwinski; crabby grandfather of Diane (Jeff) Warden, Kelly Konwinski, Kelsey (David) Simon, Alan Konwinski and Sara (David) Derdiger; spoiled great grandfather of Nathaniel; brother of the late Rosemary, Lucille, Emily, Julia and Mary; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bernard leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
 
WHEREAS, In addition to being a cherished husband and father, Bernard was the stuff "heroes" are made of and was honored at the November 1, 2009 Mayfair Remembrance Day -Salute to American Heroes, as a World War II United States 81st Seabee Battalion Veteran, Chaplain and member of Illinois Island X-2, serving three years in the military, attaining the highest grade of Shipfitter 3rd Class, before being honorably discharged in 1946; and
 
WHEREAS, Bernard was an active and vital member of his community who touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, heart and spirit. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Bernard A. Ughetti and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernard A. Ughetti.
