RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, David Vitale has officially announced his resignation as the President of the Chicago Board of Education following more than four years of highly distinguished leadership; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, David Vitale was named the President of the Chicago Board of Education by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in May of 2011; and
WHEREAS, David Vitale joined the Chicago Public Schools in 2003 as Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, Arne Duncan, working on a full-time, pro-bono basis to improve efficiencies of the school system; and
WHEREAS, In 2003 Arne Duncan expanded David Vitale's pro-bono responsibilities and appointed him as Chief Administrative Officer of the Chicago Public Schools, a post he held until 2008; and
WHEREAS, David Vitale brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Chicago Public Schools which is the third-largest school system in the nation; and
WHEREAS, David Vitale is a former Vice Chairman and Director of Bank One Corporation where he was responsible for Bank One's Commercial Banking, Real Estate, Private Banking, Investment Management and Corporate Investments businesses; and
WHEREAS, David Vitale serves on several civic and charitable boards, including The Visiting Committee of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Museum of Science and Industry, The Art Institute of Chicago, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, and the Advisory Council of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Chicago, David Vitale is a graduate of Harvard University and earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of David Vitale serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby express our sincere gratitude to David Vitale for his tireless dedication as President of the Chicago Board of Education and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to David Vitale.
