RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Paul Laxalt has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Paul Laxalt was a former Republican Governor and two-term Senator from the State of Nevada; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of "Our Greatest Generation," the Honorable Paul Laxalt bravely served his country as a medic in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his military service, the Honorable Paul Laxalt earned a law degree and served from 1951 to 1955 as Ormsby County District Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Reno, the Honorable Paul Laxalt pursued a career in public office and was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1963; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Paul Laxalt was the 22nd Governor of the State of Nevada from 1967 to 1971; and

 

WHEREAS, From 1974 to 1987 the Honorable Paul Laxalt served with distinction as a member of the United States Senate where he was an early supporter of President Ronald Reagan and a leading figure on issues involving defense and economics; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Paul Laxalt serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Paul Laxalt was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his wife, Carol, and beloved family, the Honorable Paul Laxalt imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Paul Laxalt for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Paul Laxalt.
