CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO EAGLE SCOUT TOMMY DE LA CRUZ ON EARNING NATIONAL EAGLE SERVICE PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD
 
 
WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Tommy De La Cruz of Queen of All Saints Basilica's Boy Scout Troop 626 has earned the 2013 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Service Project of the Year Award for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this special occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Tommy De La Cruz constructed thirteen bat boxes as part of the Forest Glen Toolkit Project that was sponsored by the Chicago Field Museum and funded by the Boeing Corporation of Chicago. The thirteen bat boxes, which Tommy looks after once a month, can be found throughout Edgebrook, Forest Glen and the North Park Village Nature Center. Bats eat mosquitoes and lower the use of harmful pesticides which benefit the environment; and
 
WHEREAS, Scores of Eagle Scouts from the Class of 2012 and around the United States competed against one another in an attempt to earn the National Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award. This award was established by the National Eagle Scout Association in 2009 to recognize the "valuable service of an exceptional nature by a Scout to a religious institution, a community, a school, or other "entity". The award also recognizes the Scout for this Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project. This year one hundred and one Eagle Scouts were honored nationally by being recipients ofthe Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams Award, for projects that ranged from an Adopt a Tree Program to building a Memorial to Veterans from the Civil War to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each year local councils from around the country select a council winner. From the pool of council winners, each of the four regions select one region level winner. A national winner is then selected from the four regional finalists; now therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eleventh day of September 2013, do hereby extend our heartiest congratulations to Tommy De La Cruz on earning the 2013 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Service Project of the Year Award for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project wish him every success in any and all of his future endeavors; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Tommy De La Cruz.
