RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Walter Clark has been called to eternal .Tife by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark was the loving husband for sixty-one years of Juanita; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark was the much-adored father of Hilton and the late Juanine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark enjoyed a long and highly successful career in banking and public service; and
WHEREAS, A native of Athens, Georgia, Walter Clark moved with his parents to Carbondale, Illinois, where his father served fdr decades as the principal of Attucks Community High School; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark excelled at i sports and academia and graduated with a 'degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark worked at the First Federal Savings & Loan Association and during- his thirty year career rose from accounting clerk to Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, With the support of the bank, Walter Clark earned an advanced degree from the Harvard School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark served as Finance Chair of Mayor Harold Washington's campaign for Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Under Mayor Washington's administration, Walter Clark was named in 1986 to serve as Chairman of the Chicago transit Authority where he sought to root out patronage and professionalize the transit agency; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark worked from 1986 to 1990 as a Vice President in Public Finance and Asset Mangement with Bear Stearns; arid
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Walter Clark serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Walter Clark to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Walter Clark was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Walter Clark imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby commemorate Walter Clark for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Walter Clark. /
