RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella was a widely respected Chicago journalist and the loving husband of the late Margaret T.} nee McEntegart; and
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella was the much-adored father of Patricia, Christopher, James and Margaret and the grandfather of nine and the step-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, One of three brothers from Michigan's Upper Peninsula who pursued newspaper careers in Chicago, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1950 with a degree in journalism; and
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella was first hired by the City News Bureau of Chicago, the legendary local wire service which for more than 100 years was renowned as a training ground for young reporters; and
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella went on to work at the Chicago American, later called Chicago Today, before joining the Chicago Tribune; and
WHEREAS, Popular and widely respected by his peers, Christopher J. Agrella served as both an editor, reporter and rewrite man during his long and illustrious career in journalism; and
WHEREAS, Known for his warm smile and calm nature, Christopher J. Agrella retired from the Chicago Tribune in 1988 and frequently attended reunions with his former colleagues.; and
WHEREAS, During World War II, Christopher J. Agrella bravely served his county as a member of the United States Army in Europe; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Christopher J. Agrella serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Christopher J. Agrella to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Christopher J. Agrella will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Christopher J. Agrella imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Christopher J. Agrella for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of iZftristopher J. Agrella.
