WHEREAS, author, journalist, U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and advertising executive Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie has gone on to his reward; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie was born in Moline, Illinois but grew up in Chicago's South Shore community; and
WHEREAS, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie attended St. Ignatius High School where he lettered in football; and
WHEREAS, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie enrolled in the University of Chicago and attended classes there until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of his military service, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie finished his undergraduate program at the University of Arizona; and
WHEREAS, in the 1940s and 1950s Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie appeared on the popular Quiz Kids radio and television program; and
WHEREAS, following graduation Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie began his career in journalism as a news reporter with the Chicago Daily News, advancing to the position of Assistant Features Editor; and
WHEREAS, after leaving the Chicago Daily News, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie entered the advertising profession, becoming the creative director of Campbell Ewald's Chicago office and Cunningham & Walsh; and
WHEREAS, in 1966 Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie launched his own business, Richard Frisbie Communications, serving as a consultant to R. R. Donnelley & Sons, the world's largest printer among other clients; and
WHEREAS, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie maintained his publishing and public relations consulting company until he was in his eighties; and
WHEREAS, from 1971 through 1973, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie served as editor of Chicago Magazine and contributed free-lance articles to over four-hundred publications during his lifetime; and
WHEREAS, as an author Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie published eight books including: //'s a Wise Woodsman Who Knows What's Biting Him; Basic Boat Building; The Do It Yourself
WHEREAS, active in the civic affairs of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie served the Arlington Heights Memorial Library for forty-four years including four terms as board president; and
WHEREAS, in the literary world Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie served one term as president of the Illinois Center for the Book and held nearly every board position including president ofthe Society of Midland Authors; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie was named the Illinois Library Association Trustee of the Year , earning him the ILA Intellectual Freedom Award for his powerful advocacy for the advancement of educational freedom; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this twentieth day of September 2018 do hereby express our sorrow and extend deepest condolences to Margery Frisbie, his wife of sixty-eight years, eight children, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the passing of Richard Patrick "Dick" Frisbie.
